What tattoo would you get to celebrate your book's success OR in honor of a favorite book?
Tattoos require some form of this:
Just looking at that needle makes me squirm.
And this is what I require when getting pricked by a needle:
Once quite literally.
All the same, let's examine tattoos honoring some of my favorite books:
HARRY POTTER
TWILIGHT
GONE WITH THE WIND
ALICE IN WONDERLAND
For more literary tattoos, check out this website.
And finally, a tattoo of one of my favorite poems, a poem a thousand times more romantic than TWILIGHT could ever hope to be (from the great flouter of punctuation and capitalizing himself):
i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
- e. e. cummings, i carry your heart with me

Some of those are really pretty (like that last one!)
Does it help if I tell you that my sister, who has almost fainted before just walking past a room where they were setting up for a blood drive (no needles even visible yet!), has three tattoos? The needle doesn't look like those scary things at the doctor's.
/bad influence.
The Twilight feather tattoo is actually pretty and well done-- just a little large for my tastes. LOL
I love that poem. AGH THE LYRICALNESS DESTROYS ME!!! <3
See, I'm definitely a word person. My faves are the "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" and "We are all mad here."
Although Mr. C. Cat is pretty dang awesome, too.
Wow, I can't believe people actually got these done. Great find! Oh, and I read your comment on my blog--happy belated b-day! :)
Hey, we both posted the Dark Mark! :D
GORGEOUS poem. And great pics!
Oh I'm all about word tats...they're just so elegant. To me anyway, lol.
Whoa, those are some cool tats- but just like you said, looking at the needle in that pic makes me never, ever, ever, wanna get one done. I'm such a whimp :( The Twilight ones are cra-a-zy!
I think some of the tattoos are a bit over the top, I am in agreeance with most of you. I love 'word' tattoos. I don't think you should get characters or something of that nature from a book or movie, but I could see a quote that really gets to you from a book or a movie..I'm more along the lines of that.
love love LOVE the poem. Love.
I thought it was funny that I didn't see more "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" tats when I was searching. That seems like a fun one!
I always faint at blood drives (I feel guilty every time too, because I WANT to give blood, they just don't let me after I'm unconscious :( ), or even getting my finger pricked at the doctor's, but I was totally fine getting my tattoo. I mean, it hurt. But I didn't pass out!
I can't stand needles, either, but I'm just ignoring that part of tattoo-getting for now. LOL. I absolutely adore these examples! That literary tattoo site is great - I just looked through all the archives. Thanks for the ref!
I can't stand needles either. One of the reasons I don't have any tattoos!
I LOOOVE the Harry Potter ones- getting a Dark Mark is so boss. (:
And that poem is beautiful.
I have to admit, the Twilight tattoos aren't half bad...but I like the HP ones better!
Oh I LOVE the I solemnly swear I am up to no good one. Brilliant!
That poem ... oh wow. I have no words. Beautiful thing.
Kaitlin - I'm too much of a control freak to allow something permanent on my body regardless of the needle factor, but it's interesting you say that, because other people have told me the same thing!
Kate - I thought so, too. All of the Twilight covers are so gorgeous, though I'm not sure the apple or the chess piece would make quite as nice body art as the feather.
Kristin - I love good ol' Chessy and the word tattoos, too!
Pam - Thank you! :D
Michelle - I saw that Dark Mark around a lot of blogs yesterday!
Holly - I like the word tattoos best, too.
KeeKee - I'm a wimp too, no worries. :D
Tara - Yep, some of them are hardcore over the top. You should see the one of Robert Pattinson floating around some of the other RTW blogs. No. Pretty. lol
Sarah - I love that poem, too! I think we studied it in AP Lit in hs and I've always loved it so much. On MuggleNet I think it was, there were several 'I solemnly swear' tats. (And I totally just originally typed, I solemnly sweaT. That's a whole different meaning.
Ellen - You're the second one to say that on here. It's so weird.
Emilia - Absolutely! I liked the site, too. I spent way too much time just scrolling through it.
Kierah - Yup! Whimps unite!
Blue - Twilight's great, but seriously... HP ftw. A dark mark is way scarier than R.Patz's eyes peeking over the back of some woman's shirt. (Can you imagine!) :)
Lydia - Definitely!
Alexa - That was definitely one of my favorites.
Kirsten - I know, isn't it?! :)
I love that poem.... *happy sigh*
:)
